gladiator camping on the beach

I recently posted a video up on YouTube about a trip to Cape Lookout, NC to work while I camped on the beach for a week. Personally, I love working from the road and find it reinvigorating. This is what everyone asks about when I meet them on my travels, so I figured I would direct some content around it. I feel a lot of what I do while working on the road as more Van Life than Overlanding since I usually have to stay put from Mon-Fri and get my 9-5 work done, but there are some differences. Please let me know if you are interested in this sort of content and would like more information on it. If you do similar travel let me know what works well for you. Always on the lookout for new tips and tricks.

Veep Life: For me it is long term travel seeking solitude in remote natural settings with sustained periods of 3-5 days in one location before moving. Very similar to Van life travel in many aspects with the following differences and similarities.

Differences from Van Life:

1.     Typically camping locations will be well off the beaten path and require high clearance 4x4 to get to the site.

2.     Primary living and cooking spaces external to the vehicle.

3.     Typically, less creature comforts due to space limitations.

4.     Campsite locations typically away from all other people in very remote and difficult to get to locations.

Similarities:

1.     Typically in one location for extended 3+ days.

2.     The journey is as important or more than the destination.

3.     Seeking beautiful environments to camp.

4.     Generally friendly and willing to help others.

5.     Seeking travel and adventure.

6.     Able to still maintain a 9-5 career while traveling with trade-off in travel flexibility.

I am still kind of defining what exactly Veep Life is to me. I don't think what I do quite counts as Overlanding. It also does not really fall into the camping because of the length of my trips. For a very short time I thought it was just van life in a jeep, but when I pulled in my first dispersed campground that was full of people I knew that was not me at all. I want to head into he wilderness, find some epic view where I am the only one for miles, and enjoy the solitude with nature.
